Sticking of photo wallpapers

Photo wallpapers hanging doesn’t require special skills and specific instruments. The main requirements are the same as upon installation of standard wallpapers. You should prepare instruments, adhesive and the walls, than start to sticking photo wallpapers.

Wall preparation

Installation of wall murals should be performed on a prepared dry and firm surface. It should be:

  • puttied with gypsum putty. Not latex one, not acrylic one;
  • treated with deeply extending prime coat.

It is impossible to hang wall murals on a painted surface and old wallpapers.

Recommended air temperature for the adhesive, surface intended for photo wallpapers and premise is from +15 to +25 °C, relative air humidity is not more than 80%. You should exclude availability of draughts during the process of photo wallpapers hanging.

Instruments

While hanging photo wallpapers you’ll need:

  • an applicator roll to lay adhesive on the very wall murals and a brush to lay adhesive on the wall;
  • a wallpaper plastic palette-knife with the round dull edge for smoothing of wall murals;
  • rigid plastic roller for rolling of edges and joints;
  • clean wet sponge to remove excess adhesive.

Additionally, the following things will come in handy: a ladder, a level and a plumb bob, a pencil, a metal ruler 1 m length and a tape-measure, a wallpaper knife, scissors, and a towel for hands.

Hanging of photo wallpapers

Before hanging photo wallpapers you should put strips of wall murals in the order in accordance with the layout. Using a plumb bob or a level mark a vertical on the surface intended for wallpapers. Based on the size of one strip of wall murals and using a tape-measure mark an approximate place of a joint of the strips. Later it will help you to lay adhesive on the wall exactly across the width of the strip with a little overlap to the place of hanging of the next one.

Adhesive should be laid on the wall and wallpapers by use of a roller with fine pile. You shouldn’t leave the strip to be soaked in after you have laid adhesive on it! You should hang wall murals right after you have laid adhesive on. Don’t use too much adhesive. Exclude contact of the front side of wall murals with adhesive. Avoid bends and creases on the strip. Hanging of wall murals should be performed edge-to-edge. Smooth strips of wall murals using a plastic palette-knife.

Upon selection of adhesive for wall murals you should take into consideration high density of wall murals material (300 g/m²). You should use adhesive for fiberglass wallpapers, exclusive and heavy vinyl coating on paper or fabric substrate for this type of wall murals.

"World of photo wallpapers"™ recommends Casco Lentus, Metylan Ovalit T dispersive adhesive or any other one with the same characteristics. You should take ready-to-use adhesive. It should include PVAC and starch as compounds. Don’t use adhesive in a form of dry mixtures because it doesn't include PVAC.

The adhesive should be applied evenly with a pile roller 8 мм.

In the case of using the adhesive in the form of dry mixtures, as the glue must be applied to the wall, and onto the stripes of wall murals.

When using the adhesive ready for use, it suffices to apply the adhesive only on the wall .

Hanging of wall murals should be performed edge-to-edge.

Smoothing photowall fabric with a soft plastic spatula.

During pasting wallpapers are slightly "drag". Therefore, you should start from the middle of the stripe. Fabrics should be laid so as to match up the picture.

For complete drying of the adhesive must be 12-24 hours, depending on the conditions of work and the type of cover walls. Drying time increases with decreasing temperature and increasing relative humidity.

Upon selection of adhesive for wall murals you should take into consideration density of wall murals material (270 g/m²).

You should take ready-to-use adhesive or adhesive in a form of dry mixtures.

"World of photo wallpapers"™ recommends dry adhesive KLEO (vinyl), QUELYD (special vinyl) or any other one with the same characteristics.

It is important to take into account!

Rolling the joints together should be carried out very accurately with use of a roller (a roller for joints). Wipe the roller with a dry duster as often as possible to remove excess adhesive from its surface. When jointing put the strip so that the images on wall murals match together. Avoid bleeding of adhesive to the front side of wall murals. If it has happened don’t rub the place of the joint with a duster because it can damage the front side of wall murals. In this case just wash off excess adhesive using a wet sponge and avoiding excessive rubbing.

Attention!

It is forbidden to use dusters and a metal palette-knife for smoothing of wall murals because it can damage the sheet.

You must not use dusters for removal of excess adhesive. Use a wet sponge! As adhesive contains PVAC as a component you should wash it off in literal sense, but not dry! Don’t be afraid to wet wall murals: they are moisture resistant!
